What a way to end the season! This age-old fixture always seems to produce dramatic results and this year was probably the best ever. We took to the field with 10 men but bowled and fielded as though we were 12, with real purpose, seizing our chances, never letting them gain the upper hand. Steve took two good catches, Sam Taylor was on fire and Gilly and Joel both chipped in.

Sam and Ben got us off to a flyer, reaching 46 in six overs, but a sticky middle order collapse left us at 85 for six and staring down the barrel at a heavy defeat. Up stepped Gilly, followed by Steve, and gradually the required runs diminished until we were 184 for eight, still 26 runs short, with Steve and Joel at the crease. Just two balls could have knocked us over, but this pair knuckled down, playing with terrific application and grit. Finally, Joel clipped a ball above his head which raced away for four and victory was ours. Debbie padded up, but was rescued from making her debut.
