Result:
Fernhurst, Surrey
Details:
Butler XI 193 (B Wilkinson 60, P Evans 47, G Wiid 31) Fernhurst 163 for 8 (P Evans 3-24, W Roberts 2-19). Match drawn.

Without Steve McCormack or Ryan Mack for this pleasant mid-summer fixture in deepest Surrey, we did have Ben, Gilly, Gilly’s mate Walter, new recruit Peter Evans and the Maby père-fils combo. Put in to bat, Ben and Gilly (sounds like the lyrics to Ziggy Stardust) gave us a great start, while Peter Evans at number five made almost half of his epic century against the Scotties. Not quite 200 in total, but still a decent score to defend.

Even though this match ended in a draw, it was certainly a ‘winning’ draw and perhaps the best bowling performance of the season. Peter Evans was sharp, economical and dangerous; Gilly was positively stingy, bowling four maidens and conceding just 16 runs in nine overs. Walter Roberts took them by surprise near the end, taking two excellent wickets and putting us in with a shout. James and Tim both took a wicket and we looked like a team which knows how to get people out, for once.
